There are 2,567 municipalities in Pennsylvania. An insane amount. At Monday's Oil City Council meeting Councilman John Noel Bartlett brought up the idea of exploring a municipal consolidation or merger with Cornplanter Township and Rouseville Borough. Kudos to Mr Bartlett for putting the idea on the table. Consolidating services would save taxpayers money. You can read his thoughts on the subject on his blog, Inside Oil City.

A coalition of home and community-based providers strongly criticized a proposal under consideration by Acting Secretary of Labor and Industry Sandi Vito that could require workers who provide in-home care to seniors and individuals with disabilities to join a state-funded registry called the Consumer Workforce Council. “Having what is in essence a state-operated homecare agency would be redundant and a very unnecessary expense for Pennsylvania taxpayers. There is already an expansive home and community-based provider network in the commonwealth. There are nearly 800 homecare agencies caring for thousands of our elderly and individuals with disabilities every day,” said Vicki Hoak, executive director of the Pennsylvania Homecare Association, whose organization is a member of the Coalition for REAL (Respected, Empowered, Accessible and Loyal) Home and Community-Based Services. Deborah Yacobozzi, attendant care program manager with Community Resources for Independence in Erie PA, said this proposal would take away consumer control. “Consumers could be forced to have the direct care workers they employ join the Council, which officials have already implied would eventually become a union. We don’t need another bureaucracy; what we do need are more funds earmarked to help people remain in their own homes.”

The 11th annual Run Around Erie takes place on Sunday, September 28 at Presque Isle State Park. Proceeds from the race benefit two excellent Erie organizations - the Erie County Drug and Alcohol Coalition, a grass roots community volunteer organization committed to eliminating substance abuse, and Gaudenzia Crossroads, an organization that helps people affected by chemical dependency, mental illness and related conditions through comprehensive treatment and prevention.
The race gave me one of my favorite "Only in Erie" stories. It use to go through the streets of the city. The run went down Ash St and then west to the bayfront. A few years ago during the race, the corner convenience store at 6th and Ash was was robbed. Because police were busy doing traffic control and had numerous streets blocked off for the race, it took them time to respond to the incident. The criminal got away with around $5,000 in cash and checks. He was never caught.

'There are indications that polls show incumbent, moderate Republican Phil English "thumping" Dahlkemper and Porter.'
There are also indications that questionnaires show you are pulling things out of very thin air.
Leftist liberal views don’t normally include being pro-life and pro-2nd amendment. Dahlkemper is a moderate leaning left while English is a moderate when it is election time.
It is time fulfill Congre$$man Phil English’s term limit pledge.
