Dr Paula Galloway has joined the staff of Takoma Regional Hospital in Greeneville, TN as a general surgeon. Galloway received her undergraduate degree from Gannon University in Erie, Pa. She received her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed an internship and a residency in general surgery from Wright State University/ Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, where she served as chief resident.

Steven Shipley, Andrew Wilkins and Mike Lomas scored in the opening eight minutes of the game to lead the Owen Sound Attack to a 3-1 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played last night in front of 3,054 at the Tullio Arena. Sean Jones scored the lone Otters goal. Erie saw a three-game winning streak and a four-game home-winning streak come to an end with the loss. The Otters are now 10-10-1-0 on the season. The Mercyhurst women's hockey team opened College Hockey America (CHA) play Friday night with a 4-1 win at conference newcomer Syracuse. The Lakers improved to 5-4 overall while the Orange had a three-game winning streak snapped in falling to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in CHA. It was the first-ever meeting between the teams.
The Gannon University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed in a tri-meet at Allegheny College Friday. The men beat Edinboro 73-35 and Allegheny 66-47, while the women defeated the hosts 66-47. Edinboro’s women beat the Lady Knights 65-46.

John Lynch has a press conference scheduled for Monday to announce his retirement from football. Lynch threw the first pitch in the Florida Marlins organization's history as a member of the Erie Sailors back in 1992.
William McCarthy has been hired by the El Paso Generals of the Indoor Football League as the Offensive/ Defensive Lines Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. Coach McCarthy comes to the Generals after spending the 2008 season with the Mercyhurst Lakers, coaching their defensive line and special teams. Prior to Mercyhurst, McCarthy spent the spring of 2008 with the Mississippi Mudcats of the AIFA where he began the season as the offensive/defensive lines coach, and special teams coordinator under Head Coach Brian Brents. Following 12 games, he assumed the role of head coach for the remainder of the season, leading the club to a 3-1 record.

Gannon University's Schuster Gallery will host its next exhibit, "The Art and the Artist," from Nov 16, 2008 through Jan 16, 2009. The exhibit will feature the work of Vitus J Kaiser, a member of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Artist Association and a longtime art teacher in the Erie School District.
